Hustling to survive uni took over the hustle to heal for a little while there tribe! But I’m slowly making tracks back to you all with the good chat and sharing real experiences along this journey. Honest and authentic as usual. So this is a big one and I’m not leaving out anything…
Everyone has a back story — some are literally “back” stories — more than anything, it’s become clear that focusing the fight on striving to get regain the Old, can really hold you back from building foundations to the New! However, when we are dealing with a human being in pain, it’s that very subliminal factor that can drive so much of the decision making process. For example, I want to get back to doing what I used to do but to say I have struggled to drag myself through my own sessions is an understatement!! Is it possible that there needs to be a change at a physiological level to allow my bones to do their thing? Remember bones aren’t just the structure that holds us up, we are talking about the red blood cell hub of the body and so much more. I mean let’s be honest, when you are told that most of your vertebrae look like a 40 year old football player on all the diagnostics, is it time to shift focus and alter movement into the unknown and get vulnerable for a bit? Even just for a time?
The answer is a resounding YES, so enter the fantastic mates that drag you to CrossFit kicking and screaming — they know who they are and I’m lucky to have them — after little to no weights for months I actually couldn’t think of a better place to position yourself where you don’t have a choice but to do the work and get waaaaaaaay outside of the comfortable place you used to call “training” and still be super safe and sound under great coaching. However, this isn’t a about giving a wrap to CrossFit as a brand, modality, sport or anything else. I really don’t expect people to run out and give it a try — it just happens to be exactly what I needed here and now — This is me as a participant who is on her healing path giving the biggest ups to the amazing crew at CrossFit Caloundra, especially their coaches (Marty & Eli) and their community of likeminded legends that I have had the pleasure of getting to know (yep it’s official, don’t freak out, it’s a legit membership now, “insert whatever emoji here” I know some of you will be rolling your eyes). The confidence to know where my body is in space is slowly making its way back into my life and I couldn’t ask for more right now.
So what’s the secret? It’s not going and joining a CrossFit box, believe me they are not all the same caliber, I happened to fall into a great one! The secret lies in your ability to have the courage to swallow any pride, suspend those expectations we tend to so harshly place on ourselves just for a second, and check your peripherals for who or what it is that will challenge you to change in the most nurturing and authentic way possible!
